Looking back to 1903...And Toward Sherman’s Future.

CEDAR CLIFF

With this name and the initials CHE engraved on the doorknocker it verifies the home of Charles H. Evens on Evans Hill in the north of Sherman. The current owners are Jay and Nancy Pack of Long Island since 1985. Early records indicate this house was owned by various members of the Giddings family in the early 1800’s. It went from Alfred Giddings to Charles Evans in 1870 and stayed in this family until 1913. The Evans’ brothers were builders and no doubt they were responsible for the additions to this “log cabin” cottage with a 200 year history. Oh, how we wish these walls could talk!

rennovated from its earliest state.

Thanks to Robin Szendy for her research and photos. When Gloria called her to ask where this “log cabin” might have been, she answered, right here where I live! Robin is the caretaker of this property and is known for her fanciful snow sculptures each winter, her artwork and building restorations.
