La Estancia Rev. Herrick first lived in the Parsonage on Gelston
Rd. when he was pastor of The Sherman Church 1875-1891. The 1891 member
list with 166 parishioners reads like a “who’s who”
of Sherman where some one, or all of the families in these “vacation”
houses were members, with the rest being a genealogical list of old
family names - many with relations still in town. Later in 1891 Rev.
Herrick, and his family, took a mission church in Cuba. He retired to
Sherman and lived, or traveled, from LaEstancia until his death. His
daughter, Amy, was the organist at the church and lied here until her
death in 197? This is now the home of Sam Cousins and his family. It
being on the old Giddings Street (Route 55), it was probably a Giddings
home also. |
