SHS Local History Summer Program “Kids @ Cobbler Shop”, June 21 - 25

Thanks for visiting our website and we appreciate your interest in our local history summer program . . . .sorry, we're full! Come back next year!

The program is run by a group of SHS volunteers in collaboration with the Naromi Land Trust. Program directors are Virginia Zellner, recently retired Social Studies and LEAP teacher at the Sherman School, and Hildi Grob, SHS Education Chair who has a background in education.

The program will take kids back in time to Colonial days by showing them what life would have been like growing up in Sherman in the 18th century. Activities include genealogical research at the center cemetery, woodworking, outdoor cooking, studying the ecology of Sherman under the tutelage of Naromi, collecting plants that can be used for natural dyes, sewing a hand puppet, dressing up, playing Colonial games and keeping a journal using a quill pen. They will also enjoy hand-churned ice cream and old-fashioned lemonade.

The Sherman Historical Society is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to the preservation of the history of the town of Sherman. The Society owns and operates the Northrop House Museum of local history, The Old Store Museum and Gift Shop, the Red Barn and the Roger Sherman Cobbler Shop. SHS is located at Ten Route 37 Center, Sherman, CT, 860-354-3083.
